Coaching through a Lacanian Lens | Leslie Goldenberg | Webinar

The Topic

When does coaching begin, and when does it end?  Do you ever wonder after a coaching session or a coaching engagement what really happened?  In this his webinar, Leslie will introduce some practical approaches to the beginnings and endings of coaching engagements, inspired by the work of Jacques Lacan.  Following a brief introduction to Lacan, this session will offer practical applications of Lacanian theory in positioning yourself as an analytic coach in relation to the client’s needs, demands and unconscious desires.  “I begin again. I am beginning again because I thought I might have been able to finish,” Lacan says as he begins his twenty-first seminar, Les Non-dupes Errant, a fitting epigram for a webinar on the question of the beginning and the end.

This webinar follows a session that Leslie led last year on applications of Lacanian listening to the practice of coaching.  While the body of Lacanian theory is vast and has a reputation for being dense and difficult to understand, Leslie will distill a few kernels to stimulate practitioners’ thinking and offer ideas that can be immediately applied.  This webinar will be useful even for those who have never previously heard of Lacan.

The Agenda

In the first half of the webinar, Leslie will deliver the thought piece.

In the second half, we'll move into a reflection-application session:

- 'Composting': experienced peers work the material in small groups to sprout new ideas;

- 'Weaving': attendees gather to collectively reflect and question, weaving our experiences together;

- Discuss how we will apply learnings to our personal practice in Reflection Application Pairs (RAPs).
