Cultivating Cultural Humility | Chin Ru Foo | Webinar

The Topic

Our beliefs and biases are often deeply held because they’re interwoven into our cultural fabric.

Where we grew up, how we were raised, the ‘family mantras’ that were drummed into us - create well-worn grooves in our mental maps for what we deem as ‘right’ and ‘acceptable’.

Holding our long-held beliefs to the light by sharing them with each other and listening with curiosity - helps us identify the nuance needed within ‘global DEI concepts’ to facilitate real change.

By observing ourselves with compassionate curiosity, we can perhaps also learn to drop our prejudices against others.

We must cultivate cultural humility (vs expertise), helping us see our interconnectedness across geographies.

The Agenda

In the first half of the webinar, Chin Ru will make her presentation and facilitate initial responses.

In the second half, we'll move into a reflection-application session:

- 'Composting': experienced peers work the material in small groups to sprout new ideas;

- 'Weaving': attendees gather to collectively reflect and question, weaving our experiences together;

- Discuss how we will apply learnings to our personal practice in Reflection Application Pairs (RAPs).
